APIIT, short for Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology, is an educational institution specializing in providing Information Technology (IT)-related education and training programmes. Formed and based originally in Malaysia, APIIT now has established may other centres throughout the Asia Pacific region, including Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka--Andyseddon 07:06, 1 December 2006 (UTC).
Since its inception in 1993 as the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT), the University has produced more than 13,000 highly skilled technology professionals in Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region, and has earned a reputation for excellence in education and research and development.
Together with APIIT, UCTI offers internationally benchmarked undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various areas of Computing, Information Technology, Media, Technopreneurship, Business & Computer Games which focus on developing students into well-rounded professionals with the right blend of knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in their careers.
APIIT and UCTI have, won numerous awards at local, regional and international level. These awards serve as acknowledgements of the achievement of APIIT and UCTI and our students, and reaffirm our standing as being among the leading technology Institutions in Malaysia. Over the years, we have secured more than 33 awards at competitions such as:

Innovation in R&D and Commercialisation : Our Research & Development output has worldwide potential and is being adopted by several countries around the world. We were among the first private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia to receive R&D grants, and have received accolades and awards for several of our R&D innovations. Some of the innovative projects undertaken and completed successfully include:
• Screenshield – content-based pornography detection
• iShield – internet-based pornography detection
• iSMART – scheduling & resource allocation & optimisation engine
• SIROX – automatic signature recognition & verification technologies
• Realistic Talking Head Models – speech synthesis and realistic 3-D modelling technology
• Speech-Tutor – interactive training aid for the hearing impaired
• Bahasa Melayu Interactive Learning Software – text-to-speech synthesiser for the Malay language
• Interactive Sign Language Generator – teaching of basic sign language in Malay
• C.A.R.P.E.T. – accurate license plate extraction & recognition technology
Some of the above innovations are already in varying stages of commercialization, and have been successfully taken into the international marketplace.
Above all, achieving and maintaining internationally benchmarked quality standards has always been a key priority for both APIIT and UCTI. APIIT was the first private institution of its kind in Malaysia to achieve ISO 9000 certification, which we obtained in 1994, and its Quality Management System has been the model for systems developed by a number of other many other institutions. In 2004, APIIT also became the first and only Institution in the region to achieve CMMI (Capability Maturity Model-Integrated) Level 3 certification for the development of its technology solutions and innovations, and is now moving towards Level 5 Certification.
As mentioned earlier, all our programmes are internationally Quality Assured through strategic partnerships with University partners. This involves continuous review of teaching, learning and assessments activities so as to ensure comparability of student experience and academic standards. This system of quality assurance is considered to be among the most comprehensive external QA systems practiced in Malaysia.
