APEKSI

APEKSI (short for Asosiasi Pemerintah Kota Seluruh Indonesia) is the Association of the Indonesian Municipalities. Chairperson Dr. Jusuf SK, Mayor of Tarakan, Executive Director Drs. Sarimun Hadisaputra, M.Si, the former Mayor of West Jakarta (Jakarta Barat).

It was established in 25 May 2000, and is legally registered. APEKSI's existence is based upon the Indonesian laws about political and administrative decentralization (mainly Law 22/1999).
APEKSI consists of an Executive Board (1 Chairman, 6 Deputy Chairmen), the National Directorat, and 6 Regional Representative Offices (KOMWIL). All 91 cities of Indonesia are members of this Local Government Association.
APEKSI is committed to support and guide regional governments in Indonesia, with the target to support acceleration of improvement of people's welfare, justice, and even distribution of regional potentials and diversities.
Like other Local Government Associations worldwide, APEKSI basically works in two directions:
HORIZONTALLY it serves as the institutional memory of the cities, and facilitates the bottom-up formulation of policies on local and national level through theme-orientated expert groups e.g.. In addition, in-depth analysis of national policies and it's impact on local government issues are being provided.
VERTICALLY APEKSI promotes and advocates the principles of decentralization and the policies based upon, and assists the central government in formulation policies, laws and regulations.
APEKSI closely cooperates with other Local Government Associations, national and international organizations, as well as other institutions to reach it's targets.
