Anubis is the name of an orbital frame in the Playstation 2, Konami video games Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner (in Japan the game was named Anubis: Zone of the Enders after this mecha) and makes a cameo appearance in the anime series Zone of the Enders: Delores, i. It is named after the Egyptian god of embalment and the underworld, Anubis.

Its first appeance at the end of the first game in the series as an undefeatable final boss. The player was expected to bypass this boss by surviving the fight for a set amount of time before being given the chance to escape, leaving Anubis undefeated.

Anubis is a mecha that is primarily colored maroon and is equipped with advanced technology and weaponry. Beginning near the end of the first game, Anubis's pilot, or Runner, becomes Ridley Hardiman, more commonly know as Nohman, Colonel of the Mars anti-terrestrial military movement, BAHRAM. Nohman continues to pilot Anubis for the remainder of the series.

[edit] Mechanics and Technology

Anubis's primary ability is the Zero Shift, which allows it to teleport nearly instantly to nearby locations.

As shown in the animated series Zone of the Enders: Dolores, i (episode 16,) the "wings" on Anubis' back are actually large vector trap generators. These can be used as a form of very powerful defensive measure, warping space to redirect any ranged attack targeted at Anubis back at the attacker.

[edit] History and Role

Anubis is known as the most powerful orbital frame ever created. It is the main antagonist in the series. Anubis was created at the Antilia satellite colony of Jupiter as part of the Aumaan Plan, along with its sister Orbital Frame Jehuty. Though there are obvious physical differences between the two frames, they are functionally identical. However, for most of the series Jehuty is less powerful than Anubis due to limitations imposed on it by a more basic version of its firmware. If both Anubis and Jehuty were to have the same firmware, then their performance would be precisely even.

Anubis' concept was originally created by mechanical designer Yoji Shinkawa as the primary antagonist mecha in some old sketches that he created as a student.[1] It can be said that Anubis was the first mecha concept that Shinkawa made that used an Egyptian theme, and all the other Egyptian-themed mecha in the Zone of the Enders franchise borrowed this idea from the Anubis concept.[2]
