Anu Garg

Anu Garg, an author and speaker, is best known as the founder of Wordsmith.org, an online community of wordlovers in an estimated 200 countries. His books explore the joy of words. He has authored A Word A Day: A Romp Through Some of the Most Unusual and Intriguing Words and the just-published sequel, Another Word a Day. He also writes about language-related issues for magazines and newspapers and speaks internationally.

Garg was born in 1967 in rural India. His school took place under the shade of a mango tree. A few broken sticks of chalk and a blackboard made by painting a flat piece of wood with soot completed his classroom. The only language he knew was Hindi. He first saw a library when he went to college.
He learned the English language and moved to the US to study computer science. He worked as a computer scientist at AT&T and other corporations. It was at graduate school in 1994 where he founded Wordsmith.org.
He lives in the Seattle area.
