Antonique Smith

Antonique Smith (born August 11) is an American singer and actress born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey. She is probably best known for her role as Mimi in Jonathan Larson's Broadway production of Rent, although she has also understudied the role of Maureen as well.
Though most famous for her role on Broadway, Smith is actively pursuing a career in film and television. She had a small role in an untitled Beatles film due out in the fall of 2006. Her television appearances include guest stints on Law & Order and 100 Centre Street. She was also featured on "Voices Among Us" with opera duo Chris Cain and Adelmo Guidarelli.
Smith currently has a solo album in the works. She has performed at New York City nightclubs XL and The Cutting Room, co-owned by Chris Noth (Sex & The City, Law & Order).
Smith has benefited from such websites as YouTube and Myspace where videos of her performances have been posted by fans.
She has expressed interest in the role of Elphaba in Wicked, though she will not audition until completing her album in L.A. Smith left the role of Mimi in the musical Rent on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre on August 31, 2006, to be replaced by Jaime Lee Kirchner.
