Antonello Gagini

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antonello Gagini (1478-1536) was a Sicilian sculptor. His family (sometimes called Gangini) had arrived in Sicily in the mid 15th century. Antonello Gagini was responsible for some of the most decorative ecclesiastical sculpture in Sicily, especially in the area of Messina.

He was the son of the sculptor Domenico Gagini under whom he studied. He is chiefly notable for his depiction of religious figures, a large collection of his works including Annunciazione, Madonna with Child, Madonna of the Snow and the Appearance of the Cross to Constantine can be found at the Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo. He worked also at the Cathedral of Palermo.
