Anton Dreher, the older, born in Schwechat near Vienna (Austria) 7 June 1810 was an Austrian brewer who invented modern Lager beer.

He learned the brewing with Brewmaster Meichl in the family brewery. Starting in 1836, he took over the brewery and developed the bottom-fermented beer — Schwechater Lagerbier — in 1840/1841. This type of beer grew to tremendous popularity first in Vienna and later worldwide. His Son Anton Dreher the Younger later developed the brewery further and started fist to export Lager beer across the oceans.
