Antigonish 2020 Foresight
Antigonish 2020 Foresight is an ongoing community project facilitated by the AAP. It asks the following question: "Close your eyes and relax. It is the year 2020: when you open your eyes, what do you hope to see?"
Antigonish 2020 Foresight – Envisioning our future
The Antigonish area is a constantly changing (dynamic) environment. New initiatives and developments in the knowledge, energy, resources, tourism and retail/service sectors continue to drive expansion and development. While economic growth is a vital issue in any community, it is, fundamentally, a means for ensuring greater prosperity and a better quality of life for all of our citizens. Antigonish 2020 Foresight will provide our community with an opportunity to develop an overview of the present, and a vision of the next decade-and-a-half, and set sights on the kind of future we desire for ourselves, our families and our businesses and institutions. Antigonish 2020 Foresight is an initiative intended to provide our community with the tools needed to consider our future from a wide viewpoint and to then engage our businesses, institutions, planners, developers, public administrators and the community at large to work towards developing a plan with a set of principles built on community values, and achievable options for action, and the processes to get us there.
A major beneficial legacy of the event will be to establish an ongoing process to maintain the plan’s relevance and currency while recognizing, and accounting for, ongoing change.
Principles & Values - Options for Action
Antigonish 2020 Foresight is a two-pronged process in that it considers, in parallel, two types of issues:
Principles which reflect community values;
Options for Action which respect those principles.
Such that: Principles are Constants
Options for Action are Dynamic (accommodate change)
Antigonish 2020 Foresight Next Steps
Antigonish 2020 Foresight Phase 2 has begun with the creation of the process to work with the information gathered in Phase 1. Six committees including Environment, Economy, Infrastructure, Governance, Services and Quality of Life will now work towards creating a vision document for the community.
