From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Antigonea (Greek: Αντιγόνεια) also transliterated as Antigonia and Antigoneia was the chief inland city of ancient Chaonia. It was founded by Pyrrhus of Epirus, who named it after one of his wives, Antigone, daughter of Berenice. Its ruins are located just north of the Albanian village of Saraqinisht in the Gjirokastër district.
