Anthony Steel

Anthony Maitland Steel (21 May 1920 – 21 March 2001) was an English actor.
Anthony Steel was born in London, the son of an Indian army officer and educated at Cambridge. After serving as a Guards Officer during the Second World War, he entered the British Cinema and made 64 film appearances during 1948 and 1984. He also appeared extensively on television.
He became a popular matinee idol during the early 1950's, before his first marriage to the Swedish actress Anita Ekberg in 1956. Together they moved to Hollywood, with mixed results. He made several European films during the 1970's and 1980's, including appearing as Sir Stephen in the Just Jaeckin film adaptation of Story of O.

He died from heart failure in Northwood, Middlesex in 2001, aged 80.
