Anthony Mamo

Sir Anthony Joseph Mamo (born January 9, 1909) was the first President of Malta when the country became a republic on December 13th, 1974, and held the office until 1976. He was previously Governor-General, representing Elizabeth II as Queen of Malta, when the country was a Commonwealth realm. He was also the first Maltese citizen to be appointed Governor-General, and before independence, briefly served as acting Governor.
