Anthony Kershaw

Sir (John) Anthony Kershaw MC (born 14 December 1915) is a British Conservative Party former politician.
Kershaw was educated at Eton College and Balliol College, Oxford. He became a barrister, called to the bar by Inner Temple in 1939. At the beginning of World War II he served with the Thames River police, then was commissioned in the 16th/5th Lancers, winning the Military Cross. He became a lieutenant-colonel at the Army Staff College and commanded The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars of the Territorial Army after the war.
Kershaw served as a member of the London County Council 1946-49 and as a councillor on the Westminster City Council 1947-48.
Kershaw contested Gloucester in 1950 and 1951. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Stroud from 1955 to his retirement in 1987. He served as a junior minister during the 1970-1974 Conservative government, in Public Building and Works (1970), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (1970-1973), and Defence (1973-1974).
