Anthony Cooke

Sir Anthony Cooke [1] (c.1505/150611 June 1576) an eminent scholar, tutor to women and to Edward VI.

Of his daughters, Mildred (1526–1589), the eldest, was married to Lord Burghley and the second daughter, Anne (1528 - 1610), married Sir Nicholas Bacon, and became the mother of Francis Bacon.

 There is a discrepancy between Nuttall's Encyclopedia and the Oxford Dictionay of National Biography, the former spells the first name Antony and the later Anthony.
