Anthony Claggett

Anthony Claggett, born July 15, 1984. in Hemet, California, is a relief pitcher in the New York Yankees minor league system.
Claggett is a switch hitter who throws right.

Claggett was an all-Desert Valley League selection 3 times and an all-California Interscholastic Federation selection once during his 4 years as an infielder -- mostly at shortstop -- at Palm Springs High School, where his father, Herb, coached. His father also served as an official scorer for the California Angels.[1]
During his senior season he was a forward on the basketball team.[2]

He attended NCAA Division I University of California-Riverside on a scholarship as a middle infielder. It wasn't until his sophomore year that he was tried as a pitcher.

He was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the June 2005 draft.
In his 2 years in the minor leagues, he has averaged 9.31 strikeouts and 6.46 hits per 9 innings.[3]
In 2006 Claggett was named to the Baseball America Midseason All-Star team. He ended the season 7-2 with 14 saves and an 0.90 ERA, and 60 stikeouts in 60.1 innings, while giving up only 36 hits.

On November 10, 2006, Claggett, along with 2 other minor leaguer pitchers, Humberto Sanchez and Kevin Whelan, was traded to the New York Yankees for slugger Gary Sheffield.

Claggett's fastball touches 93-94 mph, and he has an 83-84 mph slider. [4]
