Anthony Castrogiovanni

Anthony Castrogiovanni (born June 11, 1961, Chicago, Illinois) is currently the Berwyn Township Republican Committeeman, Deputy Vice Chairman and West Suburban Coordinator of the Cook County Republican Party, and President of the Berwyn Township Regular Republican Organization.

[edit] 2005 Mayoral race
Castrogiovanni was the Republican candidate for mayor of Berwyn, Illinois in 2005 running against Democratic City Clerk Mike Woodward, former Democratic alderman and 2001 independent mayoral candidate Michael A. O'Connor, and Democratic Alderman Ray Fron (running as an independent), but lost to I.V.B. (Independent Voters of Berwyn) party candidate Michael A. O'Connor in the heavily Democratic suburb. In his run for mayor he campaigned on a conservative platform positioning himself as the only conservative in the four way race, but received only 309 votes, three percent of the people voting in the race.

On March 21st, 2006 Anthony Castrogiovanni was reelected Berwyn Township Republican Committeeman, narrowly defeating by 2.1% the more liberal Therese M. Shonder, who had the backing of Berwyn Mayor Michael A. O'Connor, Illinois State Treasurer and Republican gubernatorial candidate Judy Baar Topinka, and Cook County Commissioner and Republican candidate for Cook County Board President Tony Peraica. Castrogiovanni had the backing of former senatorial and gubernatorial candidate Jim Oberweis, Board of Appeals Commissioner Maureen Murphy, and the Berwyn Township Regular Republican Organization.

Previously Castrogiovanni has unsuccessfully run for Berwyn Township Collector in 1997, and campaigned for third ward alderman in 2001 against incumbent Rick Toman, but got thrown off the ballot on a technicality, Castrogiovanni then ran unsuccessfully as a write-in candidate. Castrogiovanni won the position of Berwyn Township Republican Committeeman in the March 2002 election; he ran unopposed in that race.
