Anime Banzai, AB for short, is Utah's first anime convention. It is held at Salt Lake Community College and is a school sanctioned event created and run by members of its own anime club. It is held in late October and is currently a two day convention with plans to expand to at least three days in the near future. It features several contests including cosplay, art and AMV. It also includes a gaming room, dozens of panels and two theaters for watching anime.

Anime Banzai was created by members of the End of the World anime club at Salt Lake Community College because there were no anime conventions in Utah. It was first held on Oct 15, 2005 and was a one day con that had no special guests yet still brought in over 600 attendees.

In it's second year running two-and-a-half days, along with a few noteable guests, ranked in more than double of year one guests. Running from Friday October, 20 - Saturday October 21 2006

The first year of the con yielded no guests. In it's second year the host group was able to book anime voice-actor Spike Spencer and Manga Author Amy Reeder Hadley, creator of Fool's Gold published by Tokyopop. Guests also include author Ken Rand, long-time podcaster with Nz17 Productions, Sean Robinson and the professional cosplay group Ichidan Cosplay.

There were a wide variety including convention etiquette, origami, how to cosplay, sushi preparation, fact vs fiction about ninjas, a few fan discussion panels, a subtitled vs dubbed debate, several 'How to Draw...' panels and many more. Some more specific to Anime such as the Scavanger hunt for Sakura's feathers based on the Anime/Manga Tsubasa Chronicle There were also panelse dedicated to CLAMP and Fruits Basket

Some of the contests held include a karaoke contest, known as Anime Idol a cosplay contest, a AMV contest, several video/card gaming tournaments and a fanart contest where contenstants much draw a picture fitting the theme in a set amount of time.

Other events included a Swap Meet, dance, a themed cafe with cosplayers serving the patrons, and several gameshows based on popular television, such as Who's Line is it Anyway? and Anime Jeopardy to name a few.
