Animal Protein Factor was the name given to a food supplement discovered in the early 1950's. It was given to young food animals to increase their growth rate by as much as 10 to 15 percent. It was a by-product of antibiotic manufacturing, made from the crude dried solubles in the fermentation broths from which pharmaceutical antibiotics are manufactured. It was marketed as a free-flowing powder.
