"Angel" is a 2001 hit song by reggae artist Shaggy featuring Rayvon. It was the follow-up to Shaggy's U.S. number-one hit "It Wasn't Me" and also reached number one in the U.S. for the week of March 31, 2001.
The song uses the bassline from "The Joker" by Steve Miller (1973) and also borrows heavily from "Angel of the Morning," written by Chip Taylor and best known by country-rock singer Juice Newton.
The single also reached number one in the UK singles chart, making the song a transatlantic chart topper. The success following the release, saw Shaggy clock up his third U.S. and fourth UK number one hit single. It was also a European success, at one point simultaneously topping the charts in the German-speaking territories of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The music video was directed by Cameron Casey.
