[edit] 2006 "Food Poisoning" Outbreak
On September 27th 2006, 290 pupils were absent from school. When called up and questioned, many pupils said they suffered from nausea, diarrhoea or gastric flu. 147 pupils were from the lower secondary (Secondary 1 and 2) and 143 of these pupils were from the upper secondary (Secondary 3, 4 and 5).
Canteen food or water from the water cooler was thought to have caused the epidemic.
All 8 canteen stalls were immediately closed and investigations were carried out. Students were given free biscuits and mineral water during their recess.
On September 28th, the principal, Mr. Tan Chee Siong, announced that tests conducted by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) confirmed the water was safe for consumption. Canteen stalls remained closed while food from external caterers were sold for a dollar a packet.
The cause of the outbreak has not been identified yet.
