Angélica Vale (born Angélica Vale Hartman on November 11, 1975 in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico) is a Mexican actress, singer and comedian. She has been working as an actress for 25 years but earned fame in 2006 when she became the protagonist of her telenovela "La fea más bella" with her real life mother Angélica María.
As a child, in the movie El Gran Triunfo(1981), she played the daughter of Mexican superstar, Rigo Tovar. Prior to this show, Vale had not been considered for the role of a main character in any Mexican telenovela but has appeared in a number of Spanish language programs. She has been fighting against being overweight, which could be the main obstacle in her career as a main TV character. Beauty is only skin deep, as the title of her current hit comedy AKA telenovela alludes that she may be the ugly duckling who is the prettiest one you want to know.
As a comedian, she was one of the main celebrity impersonators in the comedy show "La Parodia" from 2000 to 2005. In 2005 and 2006 Vale performed in "El privilegio de mandar".
Telenovelas are wildly popular throughout the Spanish speaking world and their limited run series are hugely profitable. "La fea más bella" is the number one Univision TV program according to 2006 Nielsen ratings. It also beats out some American programming in the 8 to 9 PM timeslot. For the week of Nov. 6-12, 2006, La fea más bella averaged approximately 5 million viewers each evening. It was ranked in the Nielsen Ratings as the top 100 rated shows at numbers 79, 80, 82, 83 and 86. It is notable that this telenovela's Neilsen rated show, #80, on a Thursday night at 8 PM beat out the CW's Smallville which came in at #84 with 4.46 million viewers.[1]
