Andy Clapton is a five-a-side football player for the Welsh IT Team at the Bank of New York.
Some commentary on Andy from the (new defunct) Football at Bank of New York web site:
On a cold, wet Tuesday winter evening the old testing team met for what is billed as the 'battle of the back stabbers'. Baz Sahathevan last season poached Mr Andy Robbins from the Testing Team, as he was sick and tired of being a nearly man, although he did not participate in the game, due to a bruised toe (bottle job), team testing were out to prove he made the wrong choice.
After a very tight start to the game with no one coming close to the onion bag, Andy Clapton on 5 minutes struck a powerful right footed shot into the top corner of the goal, leaving the big Darren Sproston with no chance. 1-0 to Welsh IT they attempted to sit on the lead till half time, with superb defending from Ben 'scratch his Harris' Aldridge. Shots were wayward from Team Testing as they had at least 90% of the possession. Eventually right on half time a lay off from Blackman set up Kilpatrick to rifle a shot into the bottom corner of the net from the half way line, keeper looked despondent....Kilpatrick looked focused. With Welsh IT starting the second half feeling shaken from the late equaliser, Team Testing took over, sublime passing and movement. The fitness shone through from these finely trained athletes. When the ball came out to Mr Blackman on 20mins he swivelled on this twinkle toes, and swerved a shot with his left peg from a tight angle to beat the keeper at his near post. 2-1 Welsh IT lost interest, Tome Erby could have had 6 but his scoring boots were left back in the changing room, Pete Bayliss ran the midfield. Mr Kilpatrick then made a darting run down the wing and hit the goal of the game across the keeper into the corner. Ben Aldridge went to have words with his keeper, but forgot he wasn't allowed in the box, which allowed Kilpatrick to complete his hat-trick, no troubles for the ice man his 9th of the season. Team Testing are full of confidence Welsh IT huffed and puffed, but the lack of three 1st team members clearly proved to be too tough a task for them to compete on the highest level. A late consolation from Andy Clapton gave them something to sing about in the showers. Mr Robbins should take note the nearly men are looking favourites for the championship.....maybe he was the weakest link, goodbye.
