Andy Pollin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andy Pollin is an American radio personality. He is the sports director of WTEM since 1992. He is currently the co-host of The Sports Reporters with Steve Czaban. He acted as sidekick on The Tony Kornheiser Show between 1992 and 2006. He also co-hosted GameDay with Mel Kiper, Jr. on ESPN Radio between 1998 and 2004.

Before his tenure on WTEM, he had served as reporter for WFAN in New York City between 1987 and 1992, for the UPI Radio Network in Washington, D.C. between 1983 and 1987, and WFAA-AM in Dallas between 1981 and 1983.

When Pollin was with The Tony Kornheiser Show on ESPN Radio, he was nicknamed "Andy Polley." The name "Polley" came from a caller who was irated by Pollin's comments of Rafael Palmeiro, called the show and screamed "Andy Pollin, you are an idiot!" However, the caller mispronounced Pollin's last name as Polley. Denis Horgan, Jr., the producer of The Tony Kornheiser Show, recorded the "Andy Polley" soundbite and the staff often played it on the show when Andy Pollin speaks. The nickname has stuck ever since.
