Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine is an Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy print magazine with a light-hearted, humorous slant. Published every two months, ASIM accepts story submissions only by email.

The Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine (ASIM) concept began in 2001, when a group of like-minded individuals joined together by chance on the internet to form the Andromeda Spaceways Publishing Co-operative Ltd. The Co-op had as part of its charter the ideal of producing a bi-monthly fiction magazine to provide a market for fiction, artwork, poetry and non-fiction, specifically for Australian contributors, but open to contributions from all over the world. Since 2002, it has succeeded in this mission, with 25 issues printed as at August 2006. The Co-operative is staffed voluntarily by members from all over Australia (with honorary members overseas), who undertake all the duties of producing a magazine, including editing, layout, advertising, promotion, sales, and the innumerable other details that go into producing a quality magazine on a regular basis.

ASIM has been nominated for an received numerous awards, and stories printed in its pages have also been shortlisted and printed in various Year's Best anthologies. Recently (April 2006) the magazine launched an electronic version, available for limited release immediate download from the website for a small fee - each e-issue is only available for the period from release of the print version, to the release of the next issue.

The first of its kind in Australia, possibly the world, in small press publishing, the ASIM Co-operative have proved that not only is it possible to produce quality print fiction by a group, with a rotating editorial roster, but that no longer is it necessary to meet face-to-face to create a successful product.
