[edit] FIBA career
Before leaving for America, he played for Latvian team BK Skonto. In eleven games for the FIBA European league (2003-2004), he averaged 18.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.82 blocks.
[edit] NBA career
Biedrins is known for many things amongst Warriors fans and the NBA: heart, shot blocking, defense, rebounding, length, speed, quickness, soft hands, awareness and ability to finish. He has all the ingredients (and more) to make a great center in the NBA. Without coach Mike Montgomery holding him along with other young players down, he is now able to show it under head coach Don Nelson.
In his rookie season Biedriņš played in 30 games, posting a Player Efficiency Rating of 14.8, and averaging 3.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. He was also the youngest player in the league during his rookie year.
In his second year, Biedriņš played in 68 games. He posted 3.8 points and 4.2 Rebounds, with 14.1 minutes per game. It was reported that year on warriors.com that Andris Biedrins had grown to seven feet.
In his second year, Biedrins was involved in a minor car accident on his way to a home game on the 880 freeway in Oakland. His Porsche Cayenne Turbo was totalled in the accident, and his missed that nights game and the next game due to back spasms. He regarded this vehicle as "his best friend in America."
Biedrins, now in his third year with the Warriors, is seeing significantly more minutes (almost 30 per game) and is currently shooting over 60% from the field, a double double and almost three blocks per game, although his free throwing shooting remains exceptionally poor.
[edit] Trivia
His Rookie year salary of US$1.5 million made him the youngest millionaire in Latvia. Over the next four years he has/will earn $1,857,360, $1,986,960, $2,636,695, and $3,609,636 respectively.
