In the Bible, Andrew is one of the earliest disciples of Jesus and one of the apostles. According to legend, he was crucified on an X-shaped cross, known as a saltire. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Romania, Russia, Scotland, and the city of Patras in Greece, where he was martyred. His feast day occurs on November 30th.
