Andreas Brantelid

Andreas Brantelid was born into a family of musicians in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 1987. He received his first cello lessons before the age of 4 based on the Suzuki method.

From 2000 to 2004, he studied with Professor Mats Rondin at the Music Academy, Malmö, Sweden. In 2004, Andreas began his studues with Professor Torleif Thedeen at the Edsberg Music Avademy in Stockholm.

He has taken part in master classes given by Ralph Kirshbaum, David Geringas, Peter Wispelwey and Frans Helmersson, as well as in chamber music master classes by Ralf Gothoni and Levon Chilingirian.

Since his debut as a soloist at the age of 11, Andreas has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras both in Denmark and southern Sweden, including the Royal Danish Orchestra, the National Danish Orchestra and Copenhagen Philharmonic. He has also performed with Kaunas Chamber Orchestra, Lithuania and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Andreas has been invited to play chamber music with the pianists Elisabeth Westenholz, Katrine Gislinge, Hans Pålsson and Roland Pöntinen.

He also played chamber music withe the viola player Vladimir Mendelsohn and violinist Luz Leskowitz.

In the summer of 2002, Andreas began regular collaborations with pianist Bengt Forsberg.

In May 2006, Andreas became the first and only Scandinavian ever to win the prestigious competition: Eurovision Grand Prix for Young Musicians in Vienna, in front of a live audience of 45,000 people and 25 million TV-viewers all over Europe.

Previously, he had won a gold medal award at the Berlingske Tidende music competition at the age of 13, first prize at the Oeresund Soloist Competition (2003), first price, spectators' and orchestra's prizes at the Danish String Competition (June 2005), as well as the final Swedish round of the European Broadcasting Union contest for young musicians, Helsingborg, Sweden.
