Andover F.C.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andover F.C. are an English football club based in Andover. They were established in 1883 and joined the Southern Football League Division Two in 1898. They are sometimes known as 'The Loonies' due to Andover's very famous workhouse, later an asylum.
In the 1962-63 season, their first in the Western League they reached the First Round of the FA Cup. In 1970-71, they finished runners-up and were promoted to the Southern League Division One South. Andover dropped down to the Wessex League starting in the 1993-94 season, where they remained until 2005-06 with the exception of one season (98/99) in the Southern League. In 2003-04, they reached the Quarter-Finals of the FA Vase, losing to Hampshire rivals Winchester City. Under the 05/06 pyramid reorganizations, a third place finish in the Wessex League was good enough for promotion back to the Southern League. They are currently members of the Southern League Division One South and West.
