Ander Elessedil is a character from The Elfstones of Shannara by Terry Brooks. He is the second son of Eventine Elessedil.
[edit] Biography
Ander was the younger brother of Arion Elessedil and the older brother of Aine, and was turned to for comfort by his niece Amberle. This made his brother Arion bitter, who later blamed Ander for Amberle's leaving of the Chosen. Seeking seclusion, he moved out of the palace, but remained in Arborlon. When the Ellcrys began to die, Ander was the first one alerted and took the messenger to Eventine. He was also the first to discover the deaths of the Chosen, and met the Druid Allanon.
In the time that followed, Ander became a reliable aid to his father. When Amberle returned and was brought before Eventine's advisors, Ander was the first to stand with her. Ander met the Legion Free Corps, led by Stee Jans, in his father's place. He later accompanied Eventine to Halys Cut, where their army engaged the Demons. Eventine was gravely wounded, and Arion was lost to another army in the pass of Worl Run. Forced to lead the Elves, Ander commanded their forces in the following conflict.
After the Forbidding was restored, Ander was the last of his bloodline alive at that time. With his younger brother Aine dead, Aine's only child Amberle become the new Ellcrys, Eventine dead from mortal wounds and Arion dead and childless, Ander became King of the Elves. He watched as Wil Ohmsford departed Arborlon with his future wife. Later, during the war against the Mord Wraiths, Ander sent a command of Elven Hunters to Culhaven under the command of his son Edain Elessedil. Despite Edain's death, Ander's line would continue on, appearing 300 years later in the Elf Queen Wren Elessedil.
