Category talk:Ancient Greek art

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This category and the Ancient Greek sculpture, Ancient Greek pottery etc really need tidying into Prehistoric, Bronze Age, Archaic, and Classical. Periodisation in art history also suggests 'Ancient Greek' art and 'Hellenistic' art are distinctive and shouldn't overlap as much as they do here - for example, Hellenistic is not merely in Greece, whereas 'Ancient Greek' suggests (apart from Magna Grecia and the Asia colonies) only the Greek mainland and islands.

I'ld suggest sub-cats (maybe including 'Hellenistic art', but that should also be a sub-cat of 'Classical art' in its own right) by period, using this one as a root category.

I've made a start, but any help or thoughts would be useful. Neddyseagoon - talk 15:04, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
