Red for Fire : An Icelandic Odyssey Part 1 is the fifth full-length album by Norwegian avantgarde metal band Solefald and the first half of a two part saga. It was released on October 18, 2005. The band was quoted as saying "Solefald was experimenting when everybody was being true. Now that things are changing and that we've pushed the experiment quite far already, we wanted "Red For Fire + Black For Death" to be our attempts at being true. This will be a true Nordic Viking Metal album."

Both albums could be considered a play on how Solefald describe their music, being "RED music with BLACK edges".

[edit] Concept

Be welcome to my Icelandic Odyssey, warrior! I am Bragi the Skald, your host. As a poet, I wandered between the halls of Iceland, and sang the praise ofchieftain kings and queens. Giving names to things and events is the task of the skald: 'SUN I CALL the burning wheel'! As a hungry wolf with an old man's teeth I endured the SURVIVAL OF THE OUTLAW, begging the gods of the North to come forth. Instead, a band of dwarves pulled me into stone, down into their underworld WHERE BIRDS HAVE NEVER BEEN. BRAGI the Skald's crime was being seduced by Disa, the WHITE FROST QUEEN, King Haukur's wife. THERE IS NEED for my story, as there was a need for revenge. Wanting the Queen for himself, Loki the Trickster had Haukur ban me first from Reykjavík, then from all inhabitated places of Iceland. By Loki's mischief, I was falsely accused of raping the Queen, and thereupon outlanded at the Althing. When freezing in mountains, I saw the PRAYER OF A SON, asking for my ancestors' help. I wished to end my suffering at the CRATER OF THE VALKYRIES, and let the runes decide my fate. The rune of Death appeared, and I got ready to hurl myself into the mighty volcano Hekla. Then Munin, Odin's raven, turnd the rune of Man also, making me a Man of Death. Odin thus urging me to return to Reykjavik and have justice done, my journey towards vengeance was quickly interrupted by those black rascal dwarves. In the Underworld I learnt to accept my fate, and overcome my fear. SEA I CALLED the flock of waves, once I stood before it again, in the daylight. How the gods kill is a mysterious business indeed. First, they subject me to a trial of seven years of torment; then, they bid me murder my enemies for justice, and rightfully take the Queen as my wife. in what follows, you'll live through those dark events, as if my destiny was your very own.
