Amy Van Dyken (born February 15, 1973 in Greenwood Village, Colorado) is an American swimmer who has six career Olympic gold medals. Four of these gold medals came in the 1996 Summer Olympics, making her the first American woman to accomplish such a feat. She won gold in the 50 meter free, 100 meter butterfly, 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay, and the 4 x 100 meter medley relay. She was one of BALCO clients.Her name was among Barry Bonds,Marion Jones and other Balco clients.
An asthmatic since childhood, Van Dyken is currently married to NFL punter Tom Rouen.
She gained some notoriety in the 2000 Olympic Games when her habit of spitting into her opponents lanes before the start of the race was captured on television. Dutch' swimming star and eventual winner Inge de Bruijn was one of her 'victims'. [citation needed]
Her swimming career was launched while attending Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, CO, where she set many Colorado state high school swimming records.
