Amy Lee is one of the few female saxophonists to attain commercial success.
Lee was born in North Adams, Massachusetts, and studied music at the University of Miami. She is best known for being a member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band from 1991 through 2005.
In 1999, Lee released her debut solo jazz CD, Inside The Outside, on her independent label Publick Ptomaine Music. Her second CD, Use Me, was released in 2004. Musicians appearing on her recordings include drummer Sonny Emory, percussionist Jack Ashford of the Funk Brothers, pedal Steel guitarist Doyle Grisham, and renowned percussionist Ralph MacDonald.
Lee, a resident of Decatur, Georgia, has worked in the studio as a performer, arranger and writer for major albums as well as radio and TV commercials. She has also has worked with gospel artist Luther Barnes & the Sunset Jubilees, the rap group, Y'all So Stupid, and the Grammy-nominated Richard Smallwood Singers. She was first introduced to Jimmy Buffett by Charles Neville of The Neville Brothers, during the 1991 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Lee has appeared onstage with many other artists, including Ben E. King, The Temptations, blues legend Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. As a member of Jimmy Buffett's band, she has performed alongside Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Billy Joel, Ringo Starr, Clint Black, and had the prestigious honor of performing alongside President Bill Clinton during his 42nd Presidential Inaugural Ball.
