Ban Khwao (Thai: บ้านเขว้า) is a district (Amphoe) of Chaiyaphum Province, northeastern Thailand.

[edit] History

In 1806, people from Ban Khao (บ้านข่าว) in Nakhon Ratchasima Province migrated to the area of the district. When their new settlement proved successfully, they send the good news (in Thai Khwao ข่าว) to their cousin in the old village. The community flourished, and the people agreed to name the new village Ban Khao (lit. village of good news) to commemorate its history.

The area was official declared a separate district on July 23th, 1958.

[edit] Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Nong Bua Daeng, Mueang Chaiyaphum, Noen Sa-nga, Chatturat and Nong Bua Rawe.

[edit] Administration

The district is subdivided into 6 communes (tambon), which are further subdivided into 94 villages (muban). The township (thesaban tambon) Ban Khwao covers four villages of tambon Ban Khwao.
