[edit] MySpace link
I removed it because of WP:EL it says there should not be links to myspace un less it is in reguard to the site its self. ie linking to someones myspace page should be avoided. I also removed it because MySpace can be extreamly harmful to computers (the recent computer virus and other things ) and it is un encyclopedic. - It says they generally should not be linked to. You put in your edit summary that you were removing it as it was "unverifiable;" I disputed that, as it is listed on his official website. I would definitely delete it if it were a fan-made MySpace, which I believe is largely the reason for the rule of thumb regarding them, but it is not. -Shannernanner 12:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- may I also point out that if a user wants they can go to the offical page and get to it. Another key issue with MySpace is that the whole system has security issues and can harm users. Just recently the site made United States news headlines for the fact that they were infected with a virus and the site has been known to have other issues. Im not anti-MySpace but the link doesnt need to be there i can see more harm than good coming from it. Also the term generaly was refering to most group pages as "unless mandated by the article itself" per Wikipedia:External links policy and the link is not mandated. - Yes, the phrase is "should generally not be linked to unless mandated by the article itself," which means that in general it is fine to link them if "mandated by the article itself," but generally should not be otherwise (meaning that there are exceptions), as I said. I'm not really sure what the fact that the site has had viruses before has to do with anything, unless you wish to recommend to Wikipedia that they delete every MySpace link for risk of infecting users' computers, as many articles use MySpace links legitimately. I'm not deadset against removing the link, but so far I have not seen any reason to do so. -Shannernanner 07:04, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
