Talk:Amir Tofangsazan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If the prod tag is removed, this will be sent to articles for deletion as a non-notable "meme" whose purpose appears to be using Wikipedia to further a vendetta. OhNoitsJamieTalk 18:17, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
I would suggest that the article should not be deleted. I have checked the AfD guidelines and note that memes are a particularly controversial area. Regarding notability:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:MEME
As you can see, this meme falls short on some of the points but passes on others. In its defense, however, it has very quickly made the national press of both Ireland and the United Kingdom - this point can allow it to qualify as notable. I will add a reference and link to support this. Blaise Joshua 18:37, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm trying my best to make it NPOV now, have made a few edits... Neilius 08:12, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
From the criteria page: "If the meme in question fulfills any one of these requirements, it can be deemed notable:
The meme has been mentioned in a reliable source outside of Internet culture. (Example: Dog poop girl)"
As the story has been run by the Daily Mail (link now provided) and the BBC [1], then it surely must qualify as a proper article.
- Also ITV and The Sun (should do an article today!) Neilius 08:00, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
If P-P-P-Powerbook [2] is a allowed article why shouldn't this be one?
[edit] The Photo
Hey folks, I think the photo should perhaps be changed to one where Amir is not top-naked, any suggestions/thoughts? Neilius 08:15, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
I think the present photo is a good choice. It's indicative of Spikytom's retribution without being distasteful. Blaise Joshua 09:49, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
No, I don't think the photo should be changed to one where he is not naked as it is not offensive, he is not shown in any degrading pose and not genitalia is shown. Nat
[edit] Merge or delete
There is an older, more complete article featuring his full name Amir Massoud Tofangsazan This article should be merged and then forwarded there. Sfacets 14:40, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree Neilius 15:03, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- I concur. I didn't know the other article existed. GoodOmens 16:33 1 June 2006
- Agree. - Ðra
I agree. Please merge this article to the other one where there is his full name. Nat
Grudgingly, I agree also. That was my first article. Grrr. There's a lesson in checking different combinations! : o ) Blaise Joshua 12:29, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Redirect pending Deletion verdict. Sfacets 07:13, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wrong way around
The fact you wrote this article, missing the other one speaks volumes. No-one knows him with his middle name.
Merge THAT one into THIS one!
Unfortunately, I don't think that's true. A search on Google for "Amir Massoud Tofangsazan" gets 20,000 hits. A search for "Amir Tofangsazan" gets 18,000. Blaise Joshua 10:53, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- It doesn't really matter if this one redirects to the one with his full name or vice-versa, because users searching with either version of his name will find the same article. The other article is much more complete however. Neilius 11:14, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
