Amish Mennonite

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Amish Mennonite is an alternate name for a church fellowship also known as Beachy Amish. It is more common in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States, than in other regions where the Beachy Amish live.

Amish Mennonite also describes a movement among the Old Order Amish of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and areas of Ohio in the late 1800s. Most of those so identifying with the term eventually came to identify with the Mennonite Church and today retain few Amish distinctives. The term used this way generally refers to a historical movement, not a contemporary group. See Amish, especially the section called "Amish split in two."

Amish Mennonite was, until the beginning of the twentieth century, a not uncommon name for the churches now simply called Amish or Old Order Amish.
