Amir Muhammad (born Henry Billups) is an individual who former LAPD Detective Russell Poole alleged is linked to the murder of Christopher Wallace, who was better known as The Notorious B.I.G. Rolling Stone magazine writer Randall Sullivan later recounted the evidentiary links of Muhammad to the murder. An eyewitness to the murder identified a photograph of Muhammad as the shooter, and several witnesses placed him at the scene. Muhammad was never cleared as a suspect; he was never investigated and thus was never named as a suspect in the case. It is widely speculated that the LAPD's troubled Rampart section corruption scandal (involving several officers alleged to be active gang members, stealing drugs from evidence and selling them to known drug dealers, and other charges) is in some way connected to this case. After being cleared as suspect in the murder case, Muhammad told the LA Times:

The fact is the police have never talked to me. And the reason they haven't is because I had nothing to do with this horrible crime. The police didn't chase this lead because they obviously realized at some point it wasn't true. ..The story made it sound like I was some mystery assassin who committed this heinous crime and then just dropped off the face of the Earth--which is the furthest thing from the truth. ..I live and work right here in the Southland area and have done so for many years. ... I can't find the words to express the injustice I feel was done to me.[1]

Despite feeling an injustice was done to him, Mr. Muhammad declined to pursue any legal remedy for being libeled. This is, in all likelihood due to several facts: photographic and circumstantial evidence link him to David Mack (the two attended the University of Oregon together and were friends there - at the time he was still going by his birth name "Billups"); several eyewitnesses place him at the scene of Biggie Smalls murder wearing the same clothing that witnesses described the murderer wearing; David Mack was also placed at the scene of the crime. It is currently speculated that the FBI is investingating the possible involvement of David Mack, Amir Muhammad, Marion "Suge" Knight, and other self professed "Bloods" gang members in the murders of both Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace.
