The American School of Kuwait was founded in 1964, making it the oldest American school in Kuwait. A.S.K. is a K-12 institution which also includes a pre-school (referred to as the Child Development Center). The entire school is housed in a large campus in the Hawalli area of Kuwait, and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. A.S.K. is recognized by the Kuwait Ministry of Education.

As of 2005, the campus has undergone various changes. Grass fields have been added, computer labs have been upgraded, and bathroom facilities have been improved. BAE Systems has funded the computer facilities of 8 labs as part of the Kuwaiti government-mandated offset program.
