American Planning Association

The American Planning Association (APA) is a professional organization representing the field of city and regional planning in the United States. The American Institute of Certified Planners is its professional institute.

The American Planning Association was formed in 1978 when the American Institute of Planners (founded in 1917) and the American Society of Planning Officials (founded in 1934) were merged into a single organization.

The association holds an annual conference which attracts planners from throughout the United States, Canada and the world. The 2006 Conference was held in San Antonio, Texas in April of 2006. The 2007 Conference will be held in Philadelphia, PA
