American International College, founded in 1885 and located in the western Massachusetts city of Springfield, is a four-year liberal arts college with several graduate degree programs.
The history of the College mirrors many of the major events and trends of the past century and a quarter: changing agriculture, expanding immigration, growing urbanization, important inventions and the greater need for education.
Known first as the French Portestant College in Lowell, MA on July 18, 1885, it was granted a Charter by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on September 18, 1885. The new college officially opened in Lowell on October 27, 1885 with the Reverend James M. Greene, a Congregational minister, as president.
