American Girl (film)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

American Girl is a 2002 American movie about a teenage girl, Rena living with her mother, half sister Barbie, and her (secretly gay?) brother, Jay in a trailor park while their father serves time in prison. Rena decides it is time to meet her father after years of estrangment upon discovering she is pregnant. Her family decides to go to an inmate picnic to see him where his true nature along with some other secrets surface over the day long trip. It was released on video under the title Confessions of an American Girl.

Tagline: Family is the ultimate life sentence.

Rena and her family travel to her father's prison for the annual family picnic. Things seem to be going just fine, until he gets drunk. Jay wanders off to hang with another inmate and Barbie has sex with her own father, unbeknownst to the family. The inmates make her squeal like a pig to keep that fact a secret. Rena tells her dad that she's pregnant, and he is playing football drunk when he stumbles backwards and falls on her. Rena rushes to the bathroom, finding that she's bled, and lost the baby. She breaks a picture frame and uses the glass shards to slit her wrists, but Jay saves her in the nick of time.
