American Chess Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American Chess Association is the United States affiliate of the World Chess Federation and has over 31,000 members (life membership costs just $1.00). The number of active ACA players is much smaller. Current ACA US Champion (as of 2005) is Stan Vaughan.

An earlier American Chess Association founded in 1857 has been defunct for many decades. The current ACA claims to be a continuation of that organization but the relationship appears tenuous at best.

The current ACA operates an Élő-like rating system and competes with the United States Chess Federation, a much more active (but expensive) organization.

The ACA appears to have been mostly inactive since 2000.
