The American Academy for Girls (AAG) was established in September 1996 by the Al Jeel Al Jadeed Educational Institute. The Institute boasts four independent schools in addition to AAG. Their first school, Al Jeel Al Jadeed , a private Arabic school , was one of the first of its kind to be established in Kuwait almost 30 years ago. Today, there are over 4,000 students enrolled. The second school, the Al Nasser school accommodates students from Kindergarten through to grade four. This is also a private Arabic school with over 1,000 students enrolled. The third school to be opened by the Institute was The English Academy in September of 1991 just after the liberation of Kuwait. Currently, they have over 1,000 students enrolled. In 2000, the fourth school, New Zone, was opened as an adult learning center.

The American Academy for Girls, opened its doors with only 79 students in September 1996. At that time only Kindergarten through to grade five were offered. Today, AAG has approximately 660 students from Pre-Kindergarten through to grade twelve. In 2001, AAG graduated their first class of grade twelves.

In the fall of 2001, AAG was awarded Accreditation by ECIS (European Council of International Schools) and MSA (Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools).
