America, Netherlands

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

America (51°26′N 5°59′E) is a town in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Horst aan de Maas, and lies about 16 km northwest of Venlo. Its name gives rise to jokingly confusing remarks (but note that the name of the continent(s) is spelled "Amerika" in Dutch). There are some well-known stories of people receiving mail a year overdue after the mail has travelled around the world [citation needed].

In 2001, the town America had 1056 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.21 km², and contained 397 residences.[1] Including the surrounding countryside, America had 2170 inhabitants as of 2004.[2]

The most famous export product of the village America is probably the Tex-Mex band Rowwen Hèze.
