Post-Australia interview

Amber Brkich Mariano (born August 11, 1978 near Pittsburgh) is the winner of Survivor: All-Stars, and was a contestant on Survivor: The Australian Outback. On May 9, 2004, she accepted fellow All-Stars competitor Rob Mariano's proposal of marriage on live television. Many people were shocked to see Amber's inclusion in "Survivor: All-Stars" because she was not particularly memorable in her first stint on Survivor.

She is also noteworthy for whom she allied with. During the second season, she allied herself with Jerri Manthey in the hopes of riding her coattails to the end. When that failed, she was left essentially on her own and was quickly eliminated. She repeated this strategy in the All-Star season, this time with Mariano, and it worked.

As a couple in 2005, Brkich and Mariano participated in the seventh season of The Amazing Race and came in second place. While some felt that they brought new, exciting elements into the Race, others felt that they were using the program for their own ends, not the least of which was publicity to sustain interest in their televised wedding later that spring. During one leg of the race the pair drove past the car accident of their fellow racers, brothers Brian and Greg, without stopping. Their fellow competitors all checked in with the brothers prior to continuing on to the next stage of the race.

Born in the Pittsburgh suburb of Beaver, Pennsylvania, Brkich went to Beaver Area High School, and then to Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, just to the north. After both Survivor: The Australian Outback and Survivor: All-Stars, Amber was a cover girl for Stuff Magazine. On April 16, 2005, Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich were married in a private ceremony in the Bahamas. The U.S. television network CBS aired a 2 hour special about the wedding on May 24, 2005. [1]
