Malavallii Hutche Gowda Ambareesh or M.H.Ambaresh (Kannada:ಅಂಬರೀಶ್) (known as Rebel-Star Ambareesh and Mandya-da Gandu among his fans and media) born 30 November 1951 at Malavalli Taluk in Mandya District of Karnataka State is a Kannada film actor and one of the cabinet ministers in Government of India. At present he is the minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Ambarish has completed his pre-university course from Sharada Vilas College in Mysore. Ambareesh belonged to a humble family whose main occupation was agriculture and later on went on to become super-star of kannada film industry. He married Sumalatha on December 8, 1992 and has a son Abhishek. [1]

Ambarish had his humble beginnings with small roles he has even donned the roles of negative character in the film "Nagara Havu" which was also the debut movie for Vishnuvardhan. Ambareesh was introduced to filmdom by the late director Puttanna Kanagal through this movie. He continued to act in other Puttanna Kanagal movies like Ranganayaki.
Ambarish's major box office hit was the kannada film "Yelu Suttinna Kote". His other notable films include Ranganayaki, Antha, Tony, Rani Maharani, Hrudaya Haaditu, Hongkongnalli Agent Amar, Mannina Doni and Oda Huttidavaru. Many of his roles were tailored to give him an image of an angry young man who was the victim of the corrupt system. His roles always portrayed rebellion against the system. He used his star power to enter politics and joined Indian National Congress. Off late he started to play character roles in kannada films.

He is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Mandya constituency of Karnataka and is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party.
He was elected to the 12th Lok Sabha from Mandya Parliamentary Constituency as member of the Janata Dal (S). He later joined the Indian National Congress and has been representing the mandya loksabha constituency for the third time. He is now a force to reckon with in the political circles of Karnataka. M.H. Ambareesh joined the cabinet of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting. He took the oath on October 24, 2006.
