Alternative Brand Studios
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alternative Brand Studios, or Altbrand for short, is a collective of seven creators (six originally but Bob Roberds joined later). Altbrand was the first (or one of the first) small-scale collectives for webcomics where the creators collectively worked to support each other by pooling their complementary talents. Current examples of such small-scale collectives include Dumbrella, Dayfree Press and Boxcar Comics.
The members of Altbrand include:
- Xaviar Xerexes
- Bup (aka BoxJam)
- Lee Herold
- Case Yorke
- Brad Guigar
- Adam Burke
- Bob Roberds
Some of the collective projects created under the Altbrand label included an annual webcomic telethon to raise money for charity, a monthly guest webcomic, crossover projects among the member creators, and a webcomic annual CD for 2002 that featured nearly 1000 webcomics from over 30 creators.
Some of the webcomics created by Altbrand members include:
- Life in 4 Panels
- BoxJam's Doodle
- Chopping Block
- Gluemeat
- Greystone Inn
- Grimbles
- Soap on a Rope
