Talk:Alsatia

I have completely amended this article since:

there was no history or explanation of its name (Google would have helped!);
it gave the false impression that this place was simply for debtors (see the article as external link);
it was stated that the area was "gentrified" (whatever that may mean in terms of 1670! - and why 1670? surely it took the Act 27 years later to get something done) immediately the privilege was ended. I seem to recall that the whole of the river front was a slum area until well into the 19th century: the building of Charing Cross railway station cleared much of it at the other end of the Strand. If there is some evidence to the contrary, perhaps we might have it?;
as the article quoted shows, The Mint was one of those also closed down - so how come the previous statement that it took the place of Alsatia? Peter Shearan 10:51, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
