Also, given that you've described Berninger as a practicioner of "Pennsylvania Impressionism", we could use an article explaining what that is. You up for the job? DS 16:27, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Welcome to the Military history WikiProject
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Our project worklist contains some of the articles we're working on, together with a rating of their quality. It's not nearly complete, though, so please feel free to add any articles you work on if they aren't already listed there!
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines outline some things to include.
- Interested in working on a more complete article? The military history peer review and collaboration departments would welcome your help!
- Interested in a particular area of military history? We have a number of task forces that focus on specific nations or periods.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 12:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Buesgen ateasel.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Buesgen ateasel.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Ballpark sketch
Hi, which of the 10 criteria at WP:FUC does the use of the sketch at Lehigh County Ballpark fail? I agree with you that it shouldn't be in the Allentown, PA article, but I believe it is perfectly acceptable in it own article. The use of conceptual sketches of planned structures is common throughout wiki. The highest profile example would of course be Freedom Tower. Granted as soon as the structure in question is completed, the sketch should be replaced with a freely licensed photograph. ccwaters 14:42, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mount Airy
Hi. I've made significant edits to the Mount Airy article, and, about a year ago, I'm the one who began crafting it into a "real" article. I admire your diligence, but I do believe you went a bit overkill on the [citation needed] s. A lot of that information may not be available referentially, but is nonetheless true. I am aware of Wikipedia's policy and all that, but the number of citations needed that you've put up have really put a damper on the readability of the article. I'm just asking for a little bit more discretion, and accepting of "common knowledge" - even if it's only local common knowledge, such as the fact that West Mount Airy is more similar to Chestnut Hill than East Mount Airy is - disputing this is rather silly. Or the fact that in any year a look at J. R. Masterman's student directory will reveal a huge number of students hailing from 19119. This can't really be referenced as it is not public information, though it is published. JesseRafe 20:13, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- Understood. However, many of the comments that I tagged are non-encyclopedic in nature, and I believe the entry suffers because of them. There is definitely a POV, and I think that if you're going to make generalized claims (like Mount Airy residents shun large food chains and prefer small co-ops), you've got to cite them. Otherwise, you shouldn't use 'em. I was going to tag the entire article as 'lacking sources and citations', but figured I'd give those that read and edit the page a bit more help and identify those statements that should really be addressed. While some of my [citations needed] tags might be questionable, most are not. I figured I'd at least give readers/editors the chance to address where necessary (either through edits or citations), before I (who have only edited this page once or twice before) do so... [edit] Allentown
I sort of thought the new MLB players you added weren't terribly notable for two reasons. 1.) They are all retired, meaning they have no current notability; and 2.) None of them really seemed to have that impressive of an MLB career, unlike the other professional athletes listed. I will not revert them, however, unless you tend to agree with me. Also, do you know what high schools they went to? They certainly would merit inclusion on those pages. let me know. Thanks. PAWiki 01:47, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
-
- As a non-baseball fan, I've never heard of 'em... but I can probably only rattle off the names of 15-20 baseball players in total. I believe they meet notability criteria established by WP:BIO ("Sportspeople/athletes/competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing") and they were born in Allentown. That should be enough. When we get to the point of having "too many" people on the list, we'll break onto the secondary page (with a Main article linkout, like we did with Popular Culture) and list only the most famous on the primary Allentown page. I don't believe we're quite there yet. Doesn't do any harm keeping 'em there, and will tie in nicely if someone can write up something on baseball teams that were based out of Allentown. Sorry, didn't find anything on high schools...I keep this in mind when writing pages, but it is almost never to be found in any biographical information... You'd think the ASD would keep track of "famous people who attended our schools" as positive publicity, no? Alphageekpa 17:34, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Yea, I asked about the high schools because their inclusion on those pages seems a no-brainer, whereas their inclusion on the Allentown page seemed questionable because, as you correctly observe, they are not exactly notable figures, even in their sport. But they did play, as you correctly observe, which gives them some acceptable level of notability, though few would know them as they would the prior athletes listed. If we ever do a breakout, maybe we can keep the core listing (before this and future additions) and move the more comprehensive one since it's probably one of the page's most interesting features. Anyway, hope all's well and thanks for the response. PAWiki 05:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Few items from a new user
Hi, the deletion of my own entry as an author of Frankford by Arcadia Publishing would make sense if it was a personal page. I entered it as a start to the project of listing all Arcadia Publishing authors. Now to some this would be significant and to others some would care less. Who is it to say what is an item of significance, such as the Allentown MLB players mentioned above, and what is not. I have moved some of my info to my user page but if I look to followup on this project who is to say it is relevent or not? Arcadia is a large publisher of local history.
The same would go for the entry on Tommy Stars. Now he is not known nationwide as of yet but he is getting airplay here in Philadelphia. Same case, someone not being a hip-hop fan may not see that entry as significant whereas a fan of hip-hop would. Now the editting and spelling was not all that great but was being proofread and cleaned up.
This is more of a help, my entry for Gerald Nobles, I clearly list where his picture is from but cannot seem to change the copyright status, am I overlooking something?

[edit] Battle of Ghazni
Hi There,
Just created this article, Battle of Ghazni during the First Anglo-Afghan War. I was wondering if you could fix up anything which is incorrect or add to this battle or link this battle to other articles so that it generates traffic. Thankyou. Mercenary2k 02:52, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
