Contemporary doesn't mean independent. The various Anatolian alphabets can be traced to specific regional variants of Greek, and all well attested scripts share Greek innovations such as Y and X (not counting the vowels), so there doesn't appear to be any reason to believe they're separate innovations from Phoenician. kwami 17:58, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
